Planning Your Visit

 

We look forward to welcoming you. Please take a few minutes to read the information below to ensure you make the most of your visit. Please note that all visits must be pre-booked.

Costs
Primary Schools:
Entry to the museum: £4.50 per student
Workshops: an addtional £2 per student
Talks and tours: an additional £1 per student
Florence Nightingale Outreach sessions: £200 per class (Max 36 per class).
Teachers are free on the ratios shown below. Any additional adults are charged at £6 each

Secondary Schools:
Entry to the museum: £5.95
Talks and tours: an additonal £1 per student
Teachers are free on the ratios shown below. Any additional adults are charged at £6 each

Bespoke talks and tours: An additonal charge of £60

Teacher/student ratios
We ask you to ensure your student/teacher ratio meets our safety policy requirements:
• Workshops and other sessions led by our staff: One free teacher for every six students
• Primary school visits: One free teacher for every ten students
• Secondary schools, sixth form and colleges: One free teacher for every fifteen students
• Universities: One free adult with every group booking

Resource packs
You can purchase our professionally developed teaching resource packs in advance of your visit.
Teaching GCSE History? We have developed a new range of resources, specifically designed for teaching the new GCSE History Specification.
 

Familiarisation visits
Take advantage of our free familiarisation visit to help your students get the most from their visit. We can provide this for up to two teachers per school.
 

Risk Assessment
We provide guidelines, but please note that this document is not valid as a risk assessment.  Teachers are advised to make a free familiarisation visit to complete their own risk assessment and make appropriate plans for their group.

Lunch
Classrooms for eating packed lunches or food ordered from our cafe are available at no extra cost.  If you would like to order food from our cafe, please order in advance using our order form.  Food will be provided in takeaway boxes for each student. The cost is £3.50 per secondary school student or £2.75 per primary school student.
 

Supervision
We ask you to carefully supervise your students at all times, including the lunch period. Supervision is the responsibility of teachers throughout your visit. The museum can get very busy and so we respectfully remind teachers that you are responsible for the health and safety of your group on a visit.
 

Goody bags and shop
Goody bags for your students are available from just £1.60 each. Please order in advance from our shop and select 'collect in store' so we can have them ready on the day of your visit. Your students are also welcome to visit our shop on the day, which has many quirky, fun and educational items for sale, including appealing pocket money souvenirs.
